Carbon Grey – Diesel Punk Grime and Adventure for WEG D6!

This morning I discovered a Kickstarter that taglines as follows!

As we all know by now I am a huge fan of WEG’s d6 system and varients of it like Anti-Paladin’s Mini-Six. Whenever possible I gravitate to that system due in no small part to its versatility, flexibility, and easy to pick-up nature. This all means that when I saw this Kickstarter pop-up in my feed this morning, and then read that image above I knew I had to back it on system preference alone.

That doesn’t mean I want or expect anyone who graces this blog to do the same. So after some digging, I found out that Carbon Grey is three-volume comic series released by Image (Home of Spawn and Witchblade) and created by Hoang Nguyen which follows two sisters of noble birth uncovering and being part of a vast conspiracy with earth-shattering consequences – Basically put, I added the collected series add-on to my pledge!

From the Kickstarter the game is:

In the CARBON GREY Role-playing Game, thrills, excitement, and action await your every die roll. You will face the might of a nation, be forced to make grim choices, stand against deadly challenges, and take on missions no one else dare attempt—so steel your nerves, check your ammo, and heed the call of war!

Take on the role of heroes struggling against a seemingly unstoppable empire with world-conquering aspirations. Survive the grimness of trench warfare. Dare to soar the deadly skies. Master the art of espionage to uncover the secrets of your enemies. Navigate the social hierarchy and underhanded dealings of both the nobility and the underworld. Discover and learn to manipulate the strange powers that affect the very reality of the world around you.

In a world made of war, battle lines are fluid. Skirmishes are fought not only in the mud, muck, and mire but also in the ballroom. In order to win even a small victory, one needs to be willing to go to any lengths or die trying. Such is the world of Carbon Grey.

The game world appears to be massive, giant mechs, werewolves, undead, Nazi-like mooks … you name it and it seems to exist in this world. The Kickstarter itself is huge as well, depending on your level of buy-in you get anything from the collected comic, to a crap-ton of minis, condition marks, GM screen, character cards, item cards, and a chromed DDA40X Centennial (I made that one up)!

The miniatures look amazing and are well worth the extra funds to add them to the collection. Altogether there are 21 of them, and while I prefer Mind’s Eye for my games (Despite what recent posts will have you believe), they definitely help in making the world pop and immerse the player into it. Honestly, if more games would come with a few miniatures in the art style of the setting I think it would be amazing!

If you don’t want all of the miniature or only certain icon ones from the comics, groups and special characters can be added as add-ons are well for about $20 dollars. If you are one of those awesome people with a 3d Printer you can add on the STL files for $25 dollars (Which I’m told by my current mini obsessed DM is a steal)

Honestly, everything here looks great and unless anything huge blows up Carbon Grey looks to have already funded 10k over its 25k funding goal. This now leaves the Kickstarter in its stretch goal phase which has been a Midas’ touch to many Kickstarters in the past (the original Midas where even his daughter gets turned). However, Magnetic Press seems to understand this and has kept their stretch goals hidden until they’re unlocked and so far the stretch goals available are modest a challenge coin and a poster.

Carbon Grey is being developed by  Magnetic Press, LLC, and runs until September 3rd. The minimum rewarded buy-in is $15 dollars for the comic collection and goes up to $179 for non-retailers.

Magnetic Press, LLC nor any of its staff know I am busking for them and I’m not getting anything for this. It simply excited the hell out of me as d6 (especially WEG style d6) has had a massive release in a long time and is due.
