It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Zombie Orpheus Entertainment’s various D&D and RPG-based comedy series, to the point that I consider The Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising (shown here broken into “episodes” instead of a full-length film) to be the best and only necessary Dungeons & Dragons movie – I have also used Natural 1 as a way to introduce people to the concept of Shadowrun. While ZoE has been around for a good long time and still produces a lot of great content, they have slowly moved away from overt tributes and satires of gaming and gamers. While Strowlers and JourneyQuest are excellent series in their own right, they just don’t scratch that itch.
Enter Deerstalker Pictures’ 1 For All. An Aussie-based comedy series about three of the worst people to ever game and the DM who consistently has to deal with their shenanigans. Started in 2019 it has pretty much exploded with hundreds of thousands of fans, production increases helped by promotions with clothing, game companies, and the Australian Government. It has become the de facto heir to ZoE’s throne with quick, biting humor and an understanding of gamers in the 21st century. The official synopsis states:
1 For All is a fantasy sketch show inspired by tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons. The story follows our rag-tag party of adventurers as they journey through the world created by their long-suffering Dungeon Master, encountering crazy quests and colourful characters along the way. Eva plays Evandra, a mighty half-elf Fighter with a lust for blood. Antonio plays Antrius, a vain and charming human Bard. Nicole plays Nixie, a psychotic pink Tiefling sorcerer with a penchant for fire.
DeerStalker Pictures 1 for All Kickstarter
With Season 3 having wrapped up a few ago (with a truly great – and as a DM sadly home touching – finale) the team behind the show have launched a Kickstarter for the upcoming 4th season:
Currently, the Kickstarter is sitting at nearly 53k and hosts modest rewards (a soundtrack, exclusive news, an adventure, minis, etc). My personal hope is that it breaks the 150k stretch goal mark so that Deerkstalker can afford a packed full 9 episode season … one of which I hope is another Musical Episode!
