The smell of offal and rotting meat filled the air as El dropped into the cavern from poacher shift. Dirty linen tents lay in disorganized mass around a large fire pit. El slipped and suppressed a gag as she stepped in something’s waste. If not for the offal she would have died, as it was the arrow barely missed her head.

Background
Hodekin are small, rat-like, creatures who came to Eira as stowaways on the great Dwarven vessels that traversed the Endless Sea. Since their arrival onto the shores of Eira they have spread like a plague and tribes of Hodekin can now be found in every environment on the island.
Hodekin are regarded as a troublesome vermin to the Dwarven who have a great, if non-aggressive, dislike of the small creatures.
Ecology
Hodekin are a factious race with clans and tribes who combine, dissolve and form at a moment’s notice and typically at highly inconvenient times. Since coming to Eira Hodekin have spread to every corner of the island, however, the most concentrated numbers are found in the northern mountains and western marshlands.
